HerGameToo started in May 2021 when 12 founding members created a video holding up signs stating the sexist abuse they as female football fans had faced during their lives. The video went viral as many other fans commented stating their similar experiences, showing there was a need for the movement.

The movement has grown and now there are over 50 of the 92 league clubs signed up to the movement with countless grassroots clubs also involved.

The aim of the campaign is:

  • Address inclusivity within football

  • Champion the growth and support of grassroots football

  • Eradicate sexism within football

Birmingham City announced on International Women's Day their partnership with HerGameToo, with was celebrated with a dedicated fixture against Middlesbrough.

The team currently consists of Emily Drakeley, lead team member and Birmingham City Ambassador; Helena Banks, Birmingham City Ambassador; and Linzie Phillips, Claire Giblin, Melissa Bennett and Ellie Yates, Birmingham City Advocates.

The team are completely dedicated to making football more inclusive for women and girls and will be working to make Birmingham as a city an easier and safer place for girls who want to play and engage in the game.
